Department of basic principles (Maulika Siddhanta) is one of the pioneer departments of the institute. Department conducts teaching, training and research in Ayurveda Samhita and Siddhanta specialty. The department also teaches compulsory subjects i.e. Research Methodology and Medical Statistics to the scholars of first year M.D./M.S.(Ayu) and to the scholars of Ayurveda Samhita and Siddhanta specialty. For second and final year M.D.(Ayu) scholars, the subjects like Padartha Vijnana, Darshanika Siddhanta, Aadharabhuta Siddhanta, Charaka Samhita, Sushruta Samhita, Ashtanga Samgraha and Ashtanga Hridaya are also being taught throughout the year.
